Some days, there's absolutely nothing in my mind.
All I have today is this...
Sergeant O'Leary is walking the beat
At night he becomes a bartender
He works at Mister Cacciatore's down on Sullivan Street
Across from the medical center
Then he's trading in his Chevy for a Cadillac-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!
You ought to know by now
And if he can't drive with a broken back
At least he can polish the fenders
(Lyrics copyright Billy Joel. But then, you knew that. Yes you did.)

15 rants and reactions:
Well you may be right, I may be crazy. I hear there's some 30th anniversary bells and whistles 2 CD reissue of The Stranger coming out soon.
I had the chorus to Two Shy stuck in my brain earlier, but at least I didn't blog about it.
That's the difference between you and me, Tone - I have no shame.
And there's me feeling embarrassed for singing "C'mon Baby Lay Your Love On Me" all day.
Huh. If you've read my blog, then you know that I regularly have nothing on my mind.
I kind of like it that way.
Oh I had "promised you a miracle" whizzing around in my hollow skull this morning. But I'm still waiting.
Lucy - that's a bit Racey for my mind.
Phil - not even chart hits of the 70's?
RB - you obviously have a Simple Mind.
Aside from Uptown Girl and The Piano Man I know very little about Billy Joel. Aside from the fact that he too is very little.
Careful, Steve - he used to be a boxer...
everyone knows We Did't Start The Fire,Steve. It's the second worst song of my late teens (close behind If I Could Turn Back Time by Cher for reasons I won't bore you with) I hate List Songs, in fact I can only think of one good one, and that's Hello by The Beloved, purely because of the strange choices of who they greet
hello peter, hello paul
saints and sinners, welcome all
tommy cannon and bobby ball
hello, hello, hello, hello
sir bufton tufton, jean paul sartre
zippy, bungle, jeffrey archer
andre previn and the lso
hello, hello, hello, hello...
Now that's going to be stuck in my head all day
I LOVE list songs. Even that Dan Le Sac s Scroobius Pip thing.
does Baz Luhrman's Sunscream qualify as a list song? That's not too abysmal, even if it is just a newspaper column being read to a lite techno track. I wonder if he'll do a follow up Jeremy Clarkson's Better Britain reading the curly haired Sun column
You should write to him with the suggestion.
List songs - is it stretching the genre to say "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies? Anyone who can get Aquaman and Akira Kurosawa in the same song is a genius.
List song that just came to mind- "I'm in Love with the Girl at a Certain Manchester Megastore Check out Desk" written by Chris "Frank Sidebottom" Sievey for his band THE FRESHIES around 1980 where towards the end he sings the names of all the record labels who rejected their demo tapes.
Best
David
Lucy - that would make my list.
David - I was listening to that song recently and I had no idea that it was Frank Sidebottom.
If I could be at all bothered, I'd make a list of list songs... but I'm just too lazy.
