Elephant Beach

Returning to Elephant Words after a two week break, I stumbled into the shortest of deadlines - just twenty-four hours to write a story based on the image above... though actually that translated into little more than one hour's writing time. The end result then is probably not one of my more successful pieces - Nick's intriguing image certainly offered far more potential, had I the time - but if nothing else, it allowed me the chance to wallow in the idiom of one of my favourite songwriters...

Brontide Beach

You remember Brontide Beach, Terry? Running barefoot down the boardwalk and sinking our toes in the sand? Playing pinball in the amusement park till the bleeps and whirls were scored into our skulls? Watching the girls in their summer dresses getting hussled by the uptown guys, biker kids with their shirts open and their hair slicked back: so much grease you could coronary in their wake? All the jukeboxes playing Patti Smith and Tom Waits and the Cars, the scent of Chilli Dogs chasing us down the pier?

You can read the complete story (there's not a whole lot more to it) by clicking here.

Where is that pic taken? looks very much like the Moeraki Boulders (http://www.newzealand.com/travel/sights-activities/scenic-highlights/natural-phenomena/scenic-highlight-details.cfm/businessid/68730/highlightcategoryid/2/startrow/10/endrow/0/seed/0.html)
Good story too, I like reading yours. Are you going to put them into a short story book someday?

Well, bearing in mind that Nick called the pic 'New Zealand Rock', I'd say there's a fair chance it might be...

As to a book... well, if you know any willing publishers...

Haha, spot the blonde! Yeah, I saw that after I had re-read the story and scrolled right down. I'm still high on finally getting the hang of downloading YouTube!

Publishers? Will keep a look out, we have got these down here now y'know.

Excellent last line Rol! Not that the whole thing is not incredibly evocative too, but the last line is a blinder!

And under 24 hrs to think up and write it - what with a life to fit in et all -I salute you!

Thanks, Laura - but you should know by now, I'm hardly encumbered by MUCH of what you might describe as "a life".
