If you build it, they will come...

And so, after many long, hard months of work... a tiny bit of it from me, but most of it from the unsung hero of the interweb, Mr. Steve Miller... my new website is up and running.

New website, you say? But Rol, what's wrong with this website? Well, this is my blog. And it's fine for all my mindless, pointless witterings about books and movies and music and comics and the madness of Audi drivers and passing out on the job (come on, who'll be the first?), but it's not the best way of showcasing my other, slightly more focused writing projects. For that, I've always needed rolhirst.co.uk. (One of the plus points to having an unusual name - you don't have to fight with anyone to get your name in the url.)

Now my old website (devised by the aforementioned Mr. M., with illustration by the ultra-talented Mr. Nige Lowrey) was lovely and sparkly and wonderful... but it was also far too complicated for me to easily update myself. Which meant I kept having to nag Miller whenever I wanted to put a new story up or change a link or remove a hideous photo of myself... and frankly, he's got far better things to do with his time (or he will have shortly). And so we decided (I say we, but you know I just went along with whatever the maestro advised) to redesign the site on wordpress so that even a techno-imbecile can update it.

(I know you won't believe it, but I worked out to to hyperlink from an image all by myself. Well, I worked out how to copy and paste the code all by myself... what do you want?)

So please do pop along and say hello. The new site's got lots more writing on it than the old one had - well, it's got almost all my Elephant Words short stories for a start (though I've yet to add some of the more recent ones), plus my play, my novel, my TV script, and a variety of comics projects. As always, any feedback is gratefully received. And if you subscribe via a feedreader or what have you, you'll get (semi-) regular updates whenever I add new material... and if I don't do that at least once a month, I expect some of you to give me a hard time about it.

Plus very shortly, the site will see the launch of something I've been promising and pre-promoting here for years... No, really - it's finally happening. They're finally coming! All the way from America!
