So we've got a few days off at the end of the month, and we fancy a trip out to York, maybe down to Beverley... might even get across to The Deep in Hull. So as not to cram too much into one day, we decided to book into a B&B for the night. As Louise is far more excited by the second of those B's than the first (and who can blame her, under the circumstances?), we found one with a breakfast menu that goes on forever (and includes a choice of salmon or steak - yes, steak - if you don't fancy the full English).
So yesterday I called up to book a room. A nice enough chap answered and we started talking about the facilities on offer. When I gave my address as "...Farm", he asked - "you a farmer, then?" I explained not, I just live in my dad's shed: he's the farmer.
"I used to be a pig farmer," he explained, "hated it."
"So," I said, "you prefer your new occupation then?"
There was a slight pause before he answered. "Well, I dunno... I'm still feeding pigs..."
Now some people... some people might have found this offputting, coming from a prospective B&B landlord. Me? I can't wait to meet him!

9 rants and reactions:
If he's serving a full english then technicallu he's feeding pigs to pigs. He sounds an absolute charmer.
That is fabulous. This is why farmers are so laconic, they only speak straight to people they think will understand and as the son of a farmer...
I will say that unless something is very wrong his current diners' dung is nowhere near as stinky as his former ones'.
I don't know if you've been to the Deep before, but i was rather disapointed with it when i went.
The Blue planet (or blue ocean, or blue something) near chester zoo is much better.
Steve - only top quality pigs though.
Arkonbey - maybe he has very sensitive nostrils.
Dan - yeah, but that's on the other side of the bleedin' country!
Ha, what a classic! What was he like then, this pig-feeder?
I'll let you know at the end of the month.
Oh he sounds ace. Just my kind of guy. I love people who say it how it is.
I don't eat a lot of meat - but bacon is wonderful and the smell of it cooking is like being in heaven.
Hope you have a good trip.
I think I love him. Does he want a job in a bookshop?
If he did, he'd be like Bernard Black.
